Ethiopians in America rally to defend Waldba Monastery
Share
WASHINGTON, DC – Ethiopians living in the US converged on the nation’s capital on Monday and protested against the state-sponsored destruction of Waldba Monastery, a 5th century sacred site worth declaring “Heritage of Humankind.”
The rally was in response to a call by church leaders who wanted to stop the government from committing a sacrilege of the highest degree. The government has deployed troops to keep the people from defending the holy site that the government has planned to turn it into a sugar plantation.
